Bio
Reem Alshaikh is a fine art photographer who uses movement, form, texture and color to create her images. Her work is driven by memories of her childhood and the need to transcend from societal norms and traditions into a world of her creation. Her multicultural upbringing and her instinctive awareness of cultural expectations made her question her place in society. She moved to the US to pursue her undergraduate and graduate degrees. Living in a contrasting culture overseas during these formative years pushed her to further explore the subject of culture and accepted norms. She obtained a photography certification from the University of South Florida before her return back to her home country of Oman. In 2011 she pursued photography full-time and continued to expand her knowledge in this medium.
Reem’s fine art images have been exhibited in over 20 group exhibitions in Oman and the USA from 2012 to 2022 including the first Oman International Art Fair in 2019. Her images have been selected in the annual Omani Female Photography Exhibition at the Photographic Society of Oman since 2018 and she had her first solo exhibition “Beyond The Form” in March 2022 at The National Museum of Oman.
Reem was awarded the Photographic Society of America ribbon in the 1st Gulf International Photography Circuit 2021 and is member of the Photographic Societiy of Oman.. Her work is included in private collections in Oman, USA, Australia, Canada, Lebanon and Thailand.
